Individuals can donate clothes, shoes, and other household textiles at the South Canyon Landfill in the USAgain collection bins.
- All items deposited in the collection bins must be clean, dry, and tied in a plastic bag. A sturdy plastic bag protects the items from dirt and simplifies handling.
- Accepted items include clothes, shoes, and house textiles (tablecloths, towels, bedding, blankets, etc.). regardless of condition.
- Unacceptable items include mattresses, furniture, appliances, carpet, and trash.
The South Canyon Landfill will accept cardboard donations for septage and grease composting during normal hours of operation.
The recycle drop off location is located after the scale office on the left after entering the landfill. Use of the recycle center is free and individuals using the recycle center do not have to stop at the scale office.
The recycle center is closed on Mondays but commingle (plastic #1-7, aluminum, tin), glass, and clothing, can be dropped off at the scale office from 8am-4pm on Mondays.
Waste & Recycle Combination ProgramIndividuals may drop off 30 gallon bags of household trash for $4 each (maximum up to 6 bags) when also dropping off recyclables.
Individuals who wish to participate in this program must stop at the scale office first to declare their total number of 30 gallon bags of household trash, pay the appropriate fee to the scale office attendant, then take their receipt to the recycle center and present it to the attendant for drop off of trash and recyclables.
This program is available during normal recycle center hours of operation.

South Canyon Landfill requires documentation of refrigerant removal before it can accept any refrigeration unit. Documentation must be signed by a certified technician and it must have the serial number of the unit on it. Listed below are a few businesses that may remove freon:

Toxic or Hazardous Waste
No toxic or hazardous waste is accepted. This includes, but is not limited to, paint, thinners, oil, herbicides, or pesticides. The Pitkin County Solid Waste Center will accept these materials by appointment.
Household Hazardous Waste Collection
The City of Glenwood Springs offers a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection event each April (the Saturday closest to Earth Day).This service will be free, for most items, to people living within the City limits of Glenwood Springs. People living outside the city limits of the City of Glenwood Springs will be charged a $1.00 handling fee per gallon. Contractors and Commercial Painters can bring Latex paint to recycle for $2.00 per gallon handling fee.
There is a limit of 10 gallons of paint for no fee over the limit will be charged $2.00 / gal.. Please NO containers larger than 5 gal.
